Strengthening Climate Services in Africa with support from WMO, Norwegian Government

The Government of Norway and the WMO have agreed to support climate services in Africa under the Global Framework for Climate Services

The Government of Norway and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) have agreed to provide support for climate services in Africa, under the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS). The agreement was signed during the recent COP17 Climate Conference held in Durban.

Under the agreement, support will be provided to African countries in order tostrengthen their capacity to develop weather and climate services at national, sub-regional and regional levels. Funding totalling $10 million over three years has been provided by the Norwegian Government and will be aimed specifically at improving forecasting of severe weather events.
