Adaptation Futures: 2012 International Conference on Climate Adaptation, Tucson, 29-31 May 2012

This international conference will bring together researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from developed and developing countries to share insights into the challenges and opportunities that adaptation presents.  It will showcase cutting-edge research from around the world, focusing on themes of equity and risk, learning, capacity building, methodology, adaptation finance and investment, and ecosystem-based adaptation approaches.  One of the high priority questions that the conference plans to address concerns communicating climate risks to facilitate adaptation: what do people want and need to know, and how best to understand and deliver that information?


"Planet Under Pressure" conference, London, 26-29 March 2012

Designed to provide scientific leadership towards the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), the 2012 international Planet Under Pressure conference will provide a comprehensive update of the pressure planet earth is now under.  One proposed panel at the conference is entitled "Making climate science useful: Effective dialogue between climate scientists and humanitarian and development end users".

 

17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Durban, 28 November-9 December 2011

The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 7th Session of the Conference of Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (CMP7) to the Kyoto Protocol will be held in Durban.

 

World Climate Research Programme Open Science Conference "Climate Research in Service to Society", Denver, 24-28 October 2011

For the first time ever, the World Climate Research Programme will be assembling its entire research community in a major Open Science Conference aimed at assessing our current state of knowledge on climate variability and change, identifying the most urgent scientific issues and research challenges, and ascertaining how the WCRP can best facilitate research and develop partnerships critical for progress.

 

14th Session of the CLIVAR Working Group on Seasonal to Interannual Prediction, Trieste, 12-14 September 2011

Dr Willem Landman (CSIR) and Dr Alec Joubert (Kulima Integrated Development Solutions) presented a paper entitled "WGSIP interaction with the World Meteorological Organization Regional Climate Outlook Fora", which summarised the evolution of the Regional Climate Outlook Fora, presented the recent consensus forecast presented at the Southern African Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF), and outlined findings of the SARCOF discussion on how to improve the forecast for end-users.
